1980 Royal Navy Divers Automatic Re-Issue Watch

Item code: 73119

1980 Reissue Royal Navy Divers Watch.

We have obtained the quantity required of TOP GRADE ETA 2824-2 automatic movements to complete the limited edition 1980 RN divers watches.
The remaining serial numbers are random, ranging from the 100s up to the 500s and years /18 to /22; they will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The first 1980 reissues were released in 2017 and most have been supplied with standard ETA 2824-2 movements; these remaining few are all Top Grade.

"The 1980 RN Divers Automatic originally issued to RN Clearance Divers, NSN 0552/9237697. This watch actually superseded the Rolex MilSub on the wrists of Royal Navy divers, and its first version, with a self-winding mechanical movement, is far rarer than the Rolex it replaced."  Search CWC on Hodinkee.com for the article.

Understated High Performer - The CWC 1980 Royal Navy Diver Reissue

The CWC 1980 Royal Navy Diver Reissue is one of those watches that slips under the radar in the mainstream, but that’s exactly what makes it special to me. While everyone’s talking about the Rolex Milsub, few realize that CWC took over from Rolex in 1980 as the Royal Navy’s official supplier.

The original CWC diver was likely cased in Switzerland using an MRP SA case—built for durability, not for show—and was all about function over flair.

This reissue sticks to that ethos. With only 600 pieces made, it brings modern upgrades like a sapphire crystal and a Top Grade movement, close to COSC standards, without compromising the original’s no-nonsense design.

It’s a pure tool watch that replaced the Milsub for a reason—it gets the job done, quietly and effectively. If you're into genuine military history and functionality over brand hype, CWC has nailed it again.

1980 Royal Navy divers automatic re-issue watch

I bought this watch as a gift for my son who is a technical diver. It is extremely authentic and a fantastic timepiece. I’m very pleased with it.

The most perfect watch

I thought I had missed out on this watch, because it had sold out. Looked on pre-owned sites for months with no luck, but kept checking the CWC website every day just on the off chance. Then out of the blue the last few became available and I got my grail watch, with to boot a top grade ETA movement. The watch is amazing and in my opinion with this spec, it is the most perfect watch out there. It looks incredible, functions perfectly (+1 second per day) and is an absolute strap monster! It will be impossible to take this beauty off wrist and I am just so glad I persevered in obtaining one. Thank you CWC for finally solving my quest to find the perfect watch after years of searching and hundreds of luxury watches purchased; the 1980 Royal Navy Divers Automatic Re-Issue is definitely here to stay.

Worn everyday for 3 years (& counting)

I always wanted a handsome, elegantly designed dive watch and then I stumbled across the 1980 reissue and haven’t looked back since.
I bought this for my 50th birthday as a treat and it hasn’t left my wrist since. It’s super tough (I’m in the workshop every day and this thing has shrugged off the life of a maker brilliantly) and it’s as attractive as the day is long.
Reliable, handsome and tough… bury me with this one please.

5 Stars after 1.75 years

I got mine almost 2 years ago. It is understated and aesthetically A+++. I've sold my GMT Master (pepsi) and Submariner. I've given my old Explorer 1 to my son. The 1980 basically replaced all of them. Happy to see there is no more stock.
