Cabot Watch Company Mellor-72 W10 hand wound mechanical.
Read the Hodinkee article by Jason Heaton here.
Probably the most accurate and faithfully reproduced 1970's British Military W10 available. If there was a contract today for this watch we would have no hesitation submitting this to MOD for tender.
The original had a solid one piece case with a split crown stem so that access was through the front, Today we produce this watch with a two piece case so the case back is removed making it much easier to service.
A fitting tribute to the first watch Mr. Ray Mellor made for the M.O.D.
1970s reissue mechanical hand-wound watch which was originally issued to
British Army W10, Royal Navy 0552 & RAF 6BB.
Classic military tonneau case design. Luminous hands and markers, acrylic glass. Clear to read, functional and reliable. A classic military timepiece that will provide years of service. Mechanical Swiss movement. Swiss parts, Swiss-made.
Engraving is available for this watch, however we cannot accept returns of any items that have been personalised.
I was blown away on how quick their response is to my question. I honestly thought I would not get a response but I did and I couldn't be more happier ordering the watch.
Watches have been shipped but I have yet to receive them Ed
Bought this watch for the heritage and history. But when I received it I realized that this has an incredible fit on my wrist and is has a very unique design, and appears to be well made. One of my top favorite watches for sure. I will be looking at more CWC watches in the future.
Didn’t buy it as customs outside UK was adding an extra fee. Too bad as the watch looks great.
It's a nice watch, but the font/typeface used on the dial is not faithful to the original. The new dial uses an odd Serif font for the numbers, and the CWC logo is not quite right. Just look at the images below and compare the numbers 1, 4, and 7. Besides the disappointment of not using a closer approximation to the original font, the dial just doesn't look as good as the original, IMO.
