The CWC G40 Sonar celebrates a unique chapter in CWC history, taking inspiration from one of our most recognisable military stopwatches. Originally produced for specialist military applications, the distinctive stopwatch later found an unexpected place in popular culture after appearing in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

The dial is a faithful interpretation of the original stopwatch, adapted from minutes to hours while preserving the unmistakable character of the instrument that inspired it. The anodised red screw-down crown pays tribute to the iconic red pusher that made the original stopwatch instantly recognisable.
For decades, CWC military stopwatches have been used wherever precise timing mattered most, from Royal Navy submarine sonar operations, where the Sonar name originated, to timing broadcasts in the studios and newsrooms of the BBC and ITV.
The Sonar brings that heritage to the wrist using the same robust 40mm case architecture developed for the military-issued CWC G10-X. Complemented by a domed sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, fixed strap bars and 200 metres of water resistance, it combines the durability of a modern military watch with the character of one of CWC's most distinctive historical instruments.
The result is a watch that unites two chapters of CWC history: the heritage of our military timing instruments and the evolution of our contemporary General Service watches.

This is my fifth CWC watch and I love this particular one for it's unique face and nod to the "stop watch" chrono. It's red markers on the dial and red crown are pretty unique in the "mil-spec" category of tool watches. Again the red accent looks great on the NATO strap. Very happy with my purchase.
CWC G40 Sonar Quartz Watch
The Sonar is the latest of my G40 purchases and I am very pleased with my acquisition. Like the other G40 models I have acquired the Sonar has turned out to be a grab-and-go dependable watch that maintains its accuracy while its unique watch face and colorways makes it a pleasure to wear. The domed crystal and red crown adds to its mystique. I wear it 24/7 and it has not missed a beat staying precise and accurate in my daily wear. I highly recommend this model. You won't be disappointed at all. And of course the service I have received from across the pond in London has always been excellent. The watch arrives in South Florida within 3 days of placing an order, the watch set to the exact second (not kidding) so that I can just put it on and use it. CWC, a small company that rarely gets the publicity it deserves, sad as that seems, but, I guess, good for those of us who love their products and don't have to worry about long wait periods. Another awesome watch from CWC. Thanks guys.
When CWC brought out the new G40 range, I couldn't decide whether to buy the black dial or the Sonar version. So I solved that dilemma by buying both. Very pleased I did, as they both get plenty of wrist time, along with my GS Sapphire Sub Hunter.
Have been waiting for a 40mm not 36mm infantry to come out and they did it!
Very nice but in hindsight should have gotten the classic black Broad Arrow version. As well CWC didn't send me a green instead of gray strap. But not a big deal. Overall it's a great watch!
