The G40 Sonar - Created to commemorate a unique chapter in CWC history
The CWC G40 Sonar was created to mark a unique chapter in CWC's story after one of our distinctive military stopwatches appeared in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. (You can read more about that by clicking here.)
The Sonar features a faithful interpretation of that historical stopwatch dial, while the anodised red screw-down crown pays tribute to the iconic red pusher that made the original instantly recognisable.
Over the decades, CWC has produced thousands of military stopwatches for specialist applications, from timing torpedo operations aboard Royal Navy submarines (giving rise to the name 'Sonar') to timing broadcasts in the newsrooms of the BBC and ITV. This watch draws together those chapters of CWC history into a modern General Service timepiece, built around our G40 design. A robust 40mm stainless steel case, domed sapphire crystal, screw-down crown and 200-metre water resistance make it equally at home as an everyday watch or on more demanding adventures.
For collectors, the Sonar offers something few modern watches can: an authentic design inspired by a real CWC instrument with a documented place in both military service and modern film history. Supplied on a distinctive red and black SONAR stretch strap.

CWC G40 Sonar Quartz Watch
The Sonar is the latest of my G40 purchases and I am very pleased with my acquisition. Like the other G40 models I have acquired the Sonar has turned out to be a grab-and-go dependable watch that maintains its accuracy while its unique watch face and colorways makes it a pleasure to wear. The domed crystal and red crown adds to its mystique. I wear it 24/7 and it has not missed a beat staying precise and accurate in my daily wear. I highly recommend this model. You won't be disappointed at all. And of course the service I have received from across the pond in London has always been excellent. The watch arrives in South Florida within 3 days of placing an order, the watch set to the exact second (not kidding) so that I can just put it on and use it. CWC, a small company that rarely gets the publicity it deserves, sad as that seems, but, I guess, good for those of us who love their products and don't have to worry about long wait periods. Another awesome watch from CWC. Thanks guys.
When CWC brought out the new G40 range, I couldn't decide whether to buy the black dial or the Sonar version. So I solved that dilemma by buying both. Very pleased I did, as they both get plenty of wrist time, along with my GS Sapphire Sub Hunter.
Have been waiting for a 40mm not 36mm infantry to come out and they did it!
Very nice but in hindsight should have gotten the classic black Broad Arrow version. As well CWC didn't send me a green instead of gray strap. But not a big deal. Overall it's a great watch!
I own several CWC, because of the legacy and quality. I missed the first sonar. I really like the chronometer dial, which speaks to me more than the “mission impossible” inspiration. It’s original and classic at the same time, the whole stuff at CWC level !
