CWC G40 Quartz – First Week on the Wrist

Adding the CWC G40 Quartz to my collection was one of those rare moments where a watch made an immediate impact. From the moment I opened the box, I knew this piece was different. It wasn’t just another addition — it felt like a watch that belonged with me, tapping into something deeper and more familiar.
What struck me first was the simplicity and purposefulness of the design. The dial is clean and incredibly legible, with vintage styling that feels beautifully executed. The broad arrow marking is subtle yet authentic, giving the watch its genuine service-issue feel without being overdone.
For me, there’s something about the overall look that resonates with my own military DNA. It feels familiar in the best possible way — like a tool designed for service but refined enough to wear every day.
The G40 is exactly what I wanted: a no-nonsense field watch. It gives off a “built to last” impression that inspires confidence. The quartz movement delivers accuracy and hits the second marks perfectly, while the case feels rugged enough to handle whatever comes its way.
One small pleasure I’ve discovered is charging the SuperLumiNova. Watching the Lume come alive and then glow steadily through the night has become part of the enjoyment of owning this watch. It’s a reminder that even the functional details can bring joy.
After just a week, the G40 has already drawn compliments from colleagues. It’s understated enough to blend seamlessly into daily wear, yet distinctive enough to catch the eye of anyone who appreciates military design. That balance — quiet confidence with a touch of character — makes it a watch I see myself wearing in any setting.
I have to give special mention to Richard, whose advice and support made the buying process feel personal and genuinely enjoyable. His guidance added to the sense that this wasn’t just a purchase, but an experience — one that connected me to the heritage and community behind CWC.
The G40 has exceeded my expectations in every way. It’s functional, rugged, and quietly beautiful — the kind of watch that doesn’t need to shout to make its presence felt. For me, it’s more than a timepiece; it’s a reminder of the values I appreciate most in a watch: authenticity, durability, and purpose.

Does the simple things well

After nearly 30 years of being a fan of wristwatches, I find I'm drawn more to watches that are accurate, easy to read, with a healthy amount of water resistance (in this case, 200m) and good lume. There are many watches (particularly in the CWC range) that fit this criteria, but this is one of my favourites. Having worn G10s and GS Sapphires regularly over the years, the extra bulk of the G40 took a while to get used to, so bear that in mind. The second hand hits the markers perfectly, the lume lasts the night and like all CWC watches, it's a real strap monster. Currently wearing mine on a black CWC rubber strap which really suits this watch, but it also looks fantastic on any Regimental or so called "Bond" striped NATOs, or indeed any other NATO/pull-through straps. In summary, a great all-rounder that could easily be a 'one watch collection" by itself.

G40

I was going to buy a Saphire G10, but saw the G40 and having a large wrist decided on the larger watch. I’ll probably not use it water resistant qualities, but it’s peace of mind when on holiday. I like plain, but well made watches, I chose the none date version for practicality.
Love the build quality and robustness.
