Founded in 1972 by Ray Mellor, Cabot Watch Company was established with a clear purpose: to continue Britain's tradition of supplying purpose-built military watches. The Mellor-72 represents the earliest chapter in that story, laying the foundations for a company that would go on to supply generations of British servicemen and women.
Before there was CWC, there was Ray Mellor.
Built to meet the demands of military service, the Mellor-72 embodies the philosophy that would define every CWC watch that followed: clear, dependable and engineered with purpose.
Those principles shaped the first CWC military watches. They continue to shape CWC today.
The current Mellor-72 remains faithful to its military origins, retaining the acrylic crystal, hand-wound mechanical movement and understated design that defined the original watch. While materials and manufacturing have evolved, the character of the original has been carefully preserved.
This is not an homage.
It is the beginning of the CWC story.
I couldn't be happier with the excellent CWC Mellor-72. It reliably keeps accurate time, is easy to wind and adjust, very comfortable on the wrist, and is a design proven to work in all kinds of conditions over decades.
Added advantages are that the wind up mechanism dispenses with the need for batteries (which are environmentally dubious and can stop without warning at the end of their life), and that the UK MoD-specification watch strap guarantees that the watch is not going to fall off the wrist - in contrast to normal leather straps, which can perish.
CWC's customer service and speed of delivery was also excellent.
In short, if anyone wants a reliable watch which does everything a basic watch should do, the CWC Mellor-72 is the watch to choose.

CWC Mellor-72 Mechanical Watch
Ladies and gentlemen, if you want genuine British Army watches with a proven pedigree then these are the watches you want. I have four of these great timepieces and can wholeheartedly recommend.
I also used one of the CWC watches when I spent a considerable time as an infanteer.
The watch itself is very well made and the lume is pretty good for the type of watch it is.
Nato strap is in good quality as well.
