Introduced in 1981, the CWC Royal Navy Diver marked the next phase in our professional military dive watch production. Built around the CWC 1980 Pattern Case architecture first supplied for Royal Navy service in 1980, this design has remained in continuous production by CWC for over four decades. Following the closure of the original external case supplier during the 1980s, CWC continued manufacturing and refining the design to meet evolving military requirements. All of CWC's professional divers' watches and chronodivers retain this DNA and lineage, which continues to be a requirement for supply to the Royal Navy today. The 1981 Reissue remains faithful to that uninterrupted heritage.
In 1981, the dial and seconds hand were updated and the movement changed from the ETA 2783 to the ETA 2872, and this updated version was issued for one year until the requirement changed to quartz in 1983. Both the '80 and '81 would certainly have seen action in the Falklands on the wrists of Royal Navy Clearance Divers.
CWC RN81 Clearance Diver Watch
Made to exacting military specifications as the original 1981 issued to Royal Navy Divers, this watch is powered by the robust and durable Sellita SW200-1 top grade movement, ensuring accurate timekeeping.
A watch that will give the wearer a very real sense of Naval history, nostalgia and heritage of an age where quality was paramount and built to last, the RN81 carries that through to modern day as with every watch in the CWC range.
Featuring light vintage colour Super Luminova markings for clear visibility in low-light conditions, and a luminous bezel crafted in the same way as the original, the RN81 has the authenticity and feel of Clearance Diver watches of the 1980s.
We are proud of our heritage of supplying timepieces to H.M. Forces for over 50 years, and if there was a similar requirement today from the Royal Navy for an automatic divers' watch, this would be the contender.
The polished stainless steel case is the issue spec watch, but we also offer the SF300 black PVD-coated case as an option based on customer interest. Both types are identical in all other respects.
Great watch
I have just received my rn81 diver watch: wanderfull ! I have had twenty years ago the automatic diver, mineral glass, eta power, but this rn81, is fantastic military vintage look. Fast delivery from Silvermans, number one military shop, that I have visited and I have bought many items, many years ago.
So I've been lusting over a CWC diver for quite sometime,so I was a little apprehensive to finally pull the trigger having never seen one in person. The watch arrived very quickly and any doubts were immediately quashed. The watch wears perfectly on my 7.5' wrist, accuracy is on point and I'm very happy I finally made the purchase.
Accurate and keeps good time, looks and feels great on the wrist and very happy with it. Fast service as always by Silvermans.
Solidly built, good looking and keeps precise time. I can see why
the MOD purchased this watch. Extremely reliable.
