Developed in 1980 to meet a new Ministry of Defence requirement, the CWC Fatboy marked one of the most significant developments in British military timekeeping. It became the first quartz wristwatch issued across the British Armed Forces, introducing a new standard of accuracy, reliability and practicality for military service.
Although the original Ministry of Defence specification proposed retaining the mechanical W10 case, the thicker Swiss quartz movement required a newly developed case. The result was the distinctive "Fatboy" profile, creating the design that would become instantly recognisable as the CWC G10.
More than simply accommodating a new movement, the revised case established the visual identity of the British military General Service watch until the final G10 was issued in 2006. It was a design shaped by military necessity rather than fashion, and one that continues to define the CWC G10 today.
The Re-Issue FB80 is an authentic recreation of that first quartz G10, using Super-LumiNova in a light vintage colour that is extremely close to the original Tritium dials and hands. The dial retains the circle T for historical correctness and features the original logo, which was only used for two years before the oval logo came into effect in 1982.
This is not a tribute.
It is an authentic reconstruction of one of Britain's most historically significant military-issued watches.
Loved it!
So pleased with the watch, and it’s lived up to all of my expectations. I have admired it since I served, but never got the chance to get one. This is now my day to day watch, and a lot of ex servicemen have asked about it and a lot didn’t realise that you could still get it.
Good looking, high quality watch!
I will by the next for sure!
