In 1980, the M.O.D. released a tender specification for the first quartz watch issued to all branches of the British forces. While the 70s tonneau shape case was specified, the early Swiss quartz movements couldn't fit this case and so the G10 "Fat Boy" was born.
Now, modern Swiss movements and manufacturing bring you the "Lost Boy", the watch that should have been made but never was... until now!
The Defence Standard for the "Watch, Wrist, Electronic, General Service" was dated the 29th of February 1980, a leap year day. Forty years to the day, it is making its debut. The T20 designation refers to the Tonneau case released 2020.
Engraving is available for this watch, however we cannot accept returns of any items that have been personalised.
I ordered this watch from Japan, and it arrived in about a week, which was incredibly fast. When I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the hands were already set to Japan time. This attention to detail was very impressive. The watch is crafted with great care, and I honestly prefer its design and comfort over any other luxury watch I’ve worn.I will cherish it and use it as my main watch from now on.
CWC T20 General Service Quartz Watch
After 20 years in the British Army I never went to the stores to get one and I don’t know why. Now I’ve brought this I’m so excited for it. I specifically wanted the Arrow on it so decided on the T20. Ordered late Tuesday, sent Wednesday and arrived mid morning Thursday. Brilliant service, brilliant watch and very happy with everything.
The case back protrudes excessively, causing an unsightly floating presence on wrist. The quartz movement, while accurate, jumps approximately 30 seconds when pushing the crown in during setting the time - sometimes forwards sometimes backwards. The date wheel is set too deep causing shadowing which greatly diminishes its legibility. I am very disappointed with the overall quality and plan to return it if possible.
These issues are all the more disappointing because the watch is otherwise stunning. I also own a Hamilton Pilot Pioneer, I much prefer the overall case of the CWC T20, except the protruding caseback, and it is nearly perfect when looking at it straight on. The acrylic crystal and lack of faux patina are truer to the original and I prefer it to the Hamilton’s mineral crystal and faux patina. The significant pros of the CWC T20 make the cons all the more hard to swallow and in the end a very disappointing experience overall.
