CWC Mellor-72 Mechanical Watch

Item code: 15411

Cabot Watch Company Mellor-72 W10 hand wound mechanical.
Read the Hodinkee article by Jason Heaton here.

Probably the most accurate and faithfully reproduced 1970's British Military W10 available. If there was a contract today for this watch we would have no hesitation submitting this to MOD for tender.

The original had a solid one piece case with a split crown stem so that access was through the front, Today we produce this watch with a two piece case so the case back is removed  making it much easier to service.

A fitting tribute to the first watch Mr. Ray Mellor made for the M.O.D.

1970s reissue mechanical hand-wound watch which was originally issued to
British Army W10, Royal Navy 0552 & RAF 6BB.
Classic military tonneau case design. Luminous hands and markers, acrylic glass. Clear to read, functional and reliable. A classic military timepiece that will provide years of service. Mechanical Swiss movement. Swiss parts, Swiss-made.

Engraving is available for this watch, however we cannot accept returns of any items that have been personalised.

It's nothing it doesn't need to be.

I was born in 72 to parents who were in the armed services and as someone who's into heritage timepieces, I couldn't have made a more meaningful purchase.
The only thing I do differently is wear it on a melange perlon strap.
    Thank you.

    Mellor-72

Received my Mellor-72 Mechanical watch. Having a drawer full of much less expensive battery-powered watches that seem to need a new battery exactly when I want to use one, I went in search of an old-fashioned "hand-winding" watch. The "72" hit every point. Large, easy-to-read numbers. Classic style with minimal bling (OK, no bling). No day/date window, which, at 61 years old, is difficult for me to see anyway. And especially, no dead batteries! The "72" comes with the NATO band with a "gloss silver" buckle. I asked them if I could have the "matte silver" buckle and they obliged. A surprising feature is the second hand is much smoother than a quartz watch.

The only reason I gave it four stars was the glass had a tiny scratch at the eighth/nine-second mark. The NATO band buckle was a little off-centered on my wrist. The buckle side needed to be a little longer and the "holes" side could be a little shorter. I purchased the Forstner-Klip stainless strap. It gives the watch a slightly more dressy look. While I'm pleased I got it, I"'m not sure it was worth the 104 pounds. However, that's only 3 pounds more than Forstner charges on their site, so the price is a result of Forstner, not CWC.
Overall, I am very pleased with the watch.

    cwc w10 Quality issue

I bought a cwcw10 that I've never used as a used transaction. However, the quality of w10 I actually received was disastrous It's a foreign object on the dial and it's a stamp found in many places, and it's obvious that the former buyer sold the watch secondhand because of quality issues

Great watch, quick dispatch. Strongly thinking about finding excuse to get another.

    Subtle Character

This watch is great, it is understated but when I look at it it has great details along with being easily readable. The history and military provenance just add to the experience. The strap compliments the watch really well and is also very comfortable. I have been wearing this watch constantly since receiving it which shows how much I like it!
